The Geocaching Glossary

Over the years, geocaching has developed its own set of terms, slang and abbreviation. If you play the game for any length of time, terms like "muggle" and "FTF" will become a natural part of your vocabulary, but to the new cacher or uninitiated these terms can be confusing.

The geocaching glossary is always growing and developing just as the game is. One feature of the Geocacher University glossary is that--in addition to searching terms in this page--you will find definitions within the articles and content of the site. Simply put your mouse over the linked terms (identified with this question mark Glossary) and the definition will pop-up.

With any dictionary there are always questions of the accuracy of the definition. I make no pretense of in depth knowledge of technical terms. In writing these definitions I've tried to keep in mind the question, "If we were talking about geocaching over a cup of coffee how would I describe this term?"

As always, I welcome your input on this section. If you have any words you would like to see defined or if you find mistakes or need for further clarification please contact me and I will do my best to address the issues.

MOC

Geocaching Term/Abbreviation

"Members Only Cache." This is a feature available to Premium Members of Geocaching.com. Only other Premium Members can see MOC cache pages. They are identified with this icon: MOC Cache

The purpose of MOC was to prevent cache piracy. Owners of MOC caches have the ability to view an "audit page" which shows the names of all the users who have viewed the cache page, how many times they have viewed it and the last time they viewed it.
